National Mental Health Consumer Alliance
The National Mental Health Consumer Alliance (the Alliance) is the national peak body for mental health consumers, led by and for people with lived experience of mental health challenges.
The members that make up the Alliance are the peak mental health consumer organisations from each State and Territory. The Network is the ACT member.
Our involvement with the Alliance is how the Network participates at the national level on the issues that affect all consumers across Australia.
You can read about the Alliance via their website.
How consumers can be involved
The Network has two separate Advisory Groups that consumers participate in: the Consumer Advisory Group (CAG) and the Affinity Group (AG).
These Groups function in a similar fashion to each other, but for specific reasons (see below for details). Members of these Groups serve a 2 year term.
Currently we have no vacancies for new members to these Groups. As opportunities become available, we will advise consumers in our communications, socials and website.
Consumer Advisory Group (CAG)
The CAG is a group of consumers whose role is to develop a project/s of national importance on a priority issue of the group’s choosing.
Affinity Group (AG)
The Affinity Group is similar to the CAG, however its purpose is to develop a project/s of national importance on a priority issue relevant to a particular demographic or community group that each State and Territory chooses to focus on.
The members in each Affinity Group are from the communities or the demographic that the State/Territory has chosen.
The Affinity Group for the ACT is for the Sistergirl, Brotherboy, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and Asexual plus (SBLGBTIQA+) community.
Acknowledgement of Country
The Network acknowledges and honours the traditional owners of this country, their culture and continuing connection and contribution to the land and community. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Acknowledgement of people with lived experience
We also acknowledge people with lived and living experience of mental illness as consumers and their important lived experience expertise and ongoing contributions to the mental health sector.
Vision
A community of connected voices achieving positive change.
